Raising the bar for medical care in our community
Tools for Healing Campaign 2001 - 2006
The purpose of the “Tools for Healing” Campaign was to ensure that the West Island community would have access to state-of-the-art medical equipment and treatments in a modern setting close to home. The funds raised from this campaign were used to purchase the life-saving medical equipment that will enable doctors to more reliably diagnose and treat illness which will relieve the chronic pressure on our emergency room through preventive and ambulatory care.

Message from our Co-Chairs in 2001:

For those of us who live here, Montreal’s West Island and its surrounding areas have many attractive attributes. We all have different reasons for living where we do, but we all share the desire for a strong and vibrant community that meets our family needs. One of the most important needs is health care, and that’s where the Lakeshore General Hospital comes in. It is our hospital, a vital component of what makes our community complete.
Since 1963, when the construction on Lakeshore General began, changes in technology and health care have revolutionized how medical centres work. At the same time, our population has grown immensely and so have its health care needs. As a result, the Lakeshore General is overburdened and under-funded, compelling fully two-thirds of our fellow citizens to journey downtown for medical care.
The new centre will lead the way in delivering the type of modern health care our community wants and needs. More of our families and neighbours will be able to receive state-of-the-art medical care in a modern setting close to home.
However, we have one remaining challenge to make this a reality. We are launching a $10-million “Tools for Healing” campaign to purchase the life-saving medical equipment that will transform our modern building into a state-of-the-art medical facility, that will enable doctors to more quickly and reliably diagnose and treat illness, that will attract leading specialists to practice here, and that will relieve the chronic pressure on our emergency room through preventive and ambulatory care.
We are proud to be chairing the final stretch of a remarkable journey to deliver 21st century health care in our community. We urge you to join us and support this worthy cause.
