Maria Saputo Monticciolo Memorial Press Conference

The Lakeshore General Hospital (LGH) Foundation held a memorial press conference to honour the Saputo Monticciolo family and their donation of the $500,000, made in loving memory of Maria Saputo Monticciolo. Their generous gift funded the brand-new Maria Saputo Monticciolo Short Stay Unit, a crucially-needed facility that will significantly reduce overcrowding in the LGH Emergency Room and shorten the lengths of stay.

The press conference took place on December 1st, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Maria Saputo Monticciolo Short Stay Unit. More than 65 distinguished guests, including Mr. Lino Saputo and members of the extended Saputo family, were in attendance.

Mr. Enzo Monticciolo shared inspirational words about his mother, Maria Saputo Monticciolo, and her giving spirit. The late Maria Saputo Monticciolo strongly believed in helping those in need, even during her cancer battle. The Saputo Monticciolo family made their donation to carry on their mother’s legacy by contributing to a project that will have an immediate and very positive impact on LGH patients.

The true highlight was the unveiling of the commemorative plaque. The bronze plaque features Maria Saputo Monticciolo’s smiling face and honours the donation her family made in her loving memory.

The brand-new facility features single and double rooms with private bathrooms, a central nurses’ station, a pharmacy, and the latest medical technologies for controlling the spread of infection. Patients needing less than 72 hours of medical care will be moved from the ER to this Unit.

LGH Foundation President Silvana Orrino stated: “On behalf of the LGH Foundation, I am sincerely grateful to the Saputo Monticciolo family for their generosity. Their desire to give back and carry on the loving memory of Maria Saputo Monticciolo’s legacy of kindness will directly benefit the West Island community through this brand-new unit and its positive impact on the LGH emergency room.”
